Identifying a Vehicle by VIN

Reading out the VIN via HG-VCI PC is not possible on every vehicle.

Proceed as follows to identify a vehicle by VIN:

  1. Select >Vehicle selection< in the main menu.
  2. Select >i<.
  3. Activate the check box for passenger cars, for motorcycles, or for trucks.
  4. Select VIN identification with .
  5. Select the requested manufacturer.

    Pulling off of the HG-VCI PC when actuating the clutch

    Risk of injury or material damages

    Proceed as follows before startup:

    1. Apply the parking brake.

    2. No gear is engaged.

    3. Regard the window with information and instructions.

    Danger of short circuit and voltage peaks when connecting the HG-VCI PC

    Danger of destruction of automotive electronics

    Switch off ignition before connecting the HG-VCI PC to the vehicle.

  8. Connect the HG-VCI PC to the vehicle's diagnostic connection.
  9. Both LEDs of the HG-VCI PC flash.
  10. The HG-VCI PC is ready for operation.
  11. Confirm the selection with .
  12. Data download is in progress. Communication with the vehicle is established.
  13. Observe the information and instructions windows. The message VIN could not be read out appears if the VIN could not be read out.
  14. Confirm the window with infos and instructions with where necessary.
  15. Repeat steps 5 to 8 where necessary.
  16. Confirm the window with infos and instructions with .
  17. Communication to vehicle is being established. A drop-down list appears.
  18. The corresponding vehicles are selected from the database.
  19. Double-click the required vehicle to select.
  20. Perform steps 8 to 11 as described in section Vehicle selection.
